COM 523 Communication in Personal Relationships

Weeks Two - Six: Rethinking Relationships

For these four weeks, we will be applying what we learn in Rethinking Relationships to the characters in "Why Did I Get Married?"

This movie is available via (rent for 2.99), iTunes (2.99), Google play (2.99) etc. or, if enough people are interested, we will "screen" it on campus the week of August 31.

As you read the chapters (two per week), consider and post in your group discussion forums (may want to consider creating a thread for each couple):

Are any ideas/concepts in this chapter relevant to any particular couple in the movie?

If so, which ones, who and why?

What do we learn and/or what insights do we gain from considering the couple from this particular perspective?

Is this a useful perspective?

At the end of the four weeks, you should, as a group, synthesize what you have learned about each couple (this should be a substantial analysis) and determine which concepts you found to be the most useful and why. This will be posted on the class discussion forum by Wednesday, September 23 at noon.
