Textbooks:
Sutton, R. and Seifert, K. (2008). Educational Psychology. This is a Global Text and, as such, is available for free online.

Palmer, P. (1997). The Courage to Teach. San Francisco:Jossey-Bass.
Course objectives:
Students will:
1) improve teaching skills and behaviors
2) develop philosophies about teaching
3) understand teacher-student relations
Specific learning outcomes:
Write an appropriate test/quiz Create rubrics for assignments Create a CAT (Classroom Assessment Technique) Create assignments: oral presentations, team, computer, written, etc.

- Reflect on your own teaching performance
- Reflect on your teaching choices in your portfolio
Philosophy
- Understand the importance of teacher-student relations
- Gain knowledge of how to develop appropriate and productive teacher-student relation

20% Planning (semester syllabus, unit plan, lesson plans)
20% Reflective Teaching (observation of teacher, lesson videotaped with self-reflective essays, organized and reflective portfolio, discussion forums)
15% Assessment (Test/quiz, two assignments, CAT)
15% Thinking about teaching philosophy and importance (Courage to Teach reading and paper)
30% Teacher-student relations

Requirements (ten major assignments - many of these will be in your teaching portfolio)
Create a semester syllabus and put it on the web with requirements, due dates, grading policies, course objectives: this should be a complete syllabus that you could use, remember this should be treated like a contract with your students. It is also the first impression students get of you and your course. (other resources on syllabi) MDD
Create a unit plan within that syllabus with specific exercises and requirements: this should include activities, assessment measures, objectives.(Other resources on unit plans) MDD
Create a lesson within your unit: this is what you teach from and should include objectives for that day, outline of content, activity, lecture etc. Need to use two different pedagogical approaches - lecture, whole class discussion, learning with technology, team learning, writing assignment, oral presentation assignment, other: activity, exercise, individual assignment MDD (Other resources on lesson plans).
Assessment
Create an assessment of the objectives of your unit plan, include with this, the objectives you are assessing and your table of specifications; MDD
Create two assignments within your unit plan including the grading rubrics MDD
Include a CAT with your lesson plans MDD
Reflective Teaching
Observe one other instructor and evaluate his/her teaching effectiveness, write a 1-2 page evaluation of how well the instructor met the objectives he/she was trying to meet for that class period, what were the instructor’s strengths and weaknesses? what suggestions would you make (not this is how I would teach the course);MDD
Self reflective essay on teaching performance: Evaluate a videotaped lesson (of yourself) for strengths, weaknesses and suggestions for improvement (two pages); MDD
Discussion forums over teaching topics: You should post your answer to the question by the Monday following Friday's class. The group will need to post a final answer by Thursday at noon. with the subject: Final Answer.
Teaching portfolio with explanation of teaching choices (each artifact should have a paragraph or so explaining the choices you have made). Portfolio should include: Syllabus, unit plan, lesson plan w/CAT, assessment for unit, two assignments w/rubrics, videotape of lesson taught w/self-reflective essay. MDD
